A Videographer’s Guide to the 3 Best Wedding Venues in Ontario for Food Lovers
As a wedding videographer, I spend my weekends behind the lens capturing incredible love stories across Ontario. But long before I was framing cinematic moments, I spent years working in commercial kitchens—so when it comes to wedding receptions, I pay extra close attention to what’s happening on the plate.
A truly extraordinary wedding meal doesn't just refuel your guests; it creates an experience, sparks energetic conversation, and keeps the energy high all night long.
If you and your partner are self-proclaimed foodies planning your Ontario wedding, here are three venues that consistently blow guests (and vendor crews!) away with their culinary execution.
1. Kurtz Orchards
Location: Niagara-on-the-Lake, Ontario
Nestled in the heart of Niagara-on-the-Lake wine country, Kurtz Orchards offers an enchanting outdoor estate setting surrounded by lush orchards, vineyards, and ancient trees. But as breathtaking as the scenery is, their farm-to-table culinary execution is what elevates every wedding hosted here.
The Standout Dish: Braised Short Rib with Creamy Mashed Potatoes
When we book this venue, my mouth starts watering—no joke.
Cooking for a large reception while maintaining restaurant-grade tender protein is no small feat, yet Kurtz Orchards executes this flawlessly. Their braised short rib is rich, deeply flavourful, and so melt-in-your-mouth tender that guests won't even need a knife. Paired with silky, perfectly seasoned mashed potatoes and a glossy reduction sauce, it’s comforting, sophisticated, and deeply satisfying. On film, you can literally see the visible joy at every table when dinner is served!
2. Elora Mill Hotel & Spa
Location: Elora, Ontario
Perched dramatically over the Grand River, Elora Mill is synonymous with luxury, heritage, and world-class hospitality. Their culinary team approaches wedding menus with the precision and flair of a high-end fine-dining restaurant, tailoring multi-course meals that leave a lasting impression.
The Culinary Highlights: Silky Seasonal Soups, Decadent Potatoes Au Gratin & Made-To-Order Steak
Story time: The first wedding we filmed here was one of the first they ever hosted. The Mill wasn’t even open for business yet, and the bride had secured one of the few finished rooms for the bridal suite. They booked us for a same-day edit and I spent at least half of the reception in a small room editing furiously. Until the soup came. I truly do not remember what kind of soup it was (maybe the squash? Dennis thinks pea.) but it was so good I insisted Dennis sit down and try it. He reminded me that we were on a deadline and the film was scheduled to premiere in less than an hour. I said, yeah the film’s nearly done SIT DOWN AND TRY THE SOUP. It was that good.
For the main course, their individual potatoes au gratin are a masterclass in French culinary technique: perfectly layered, rich with cream and Gruyère, and topped with a golden-crisp crust. Most impressive, however, is their ability to execute steak cooked to order for banquet dining—delivering tender, perfectly seared cuts cooked to each guest's preferred doneness straight to the table.
3. Hollowbrook Highlands
Location: Pontypool / Kawartha Lakes, Ontario
If your dream wedding vibe leans toward rustic charm, natural countryside beauty, and a relaxed, joyful atmosphere, Hollowbrook Highlands in the Kawartha Lakes region is an absolute gem. Known for its rolling pastures and friendly Highland cattle, it also holds one of the coolest culinary surprises in the province.
The Culinary Highlight: Outdoor Wood-Fired Pizza Oven Behind the Barn
Tucked directly behind the historic venue barn is Hollowbrook Highlands' custom outdoor wood-fired pizza oven. Watching the culinary team slide artisanal pizzas into the blazing oven as the sun sets creates an interactive, festival-like atmosphere. Whether served as an informal main meal or as the ultimate late-night snack for guests taking a break from the dance floor, these fresh, wood-fired pies—complete with bubbly, charred crusts and delicious local toppings—are always a huge hit on camera.
Final Thoughts for Foodie Couples
If food is at all important to you, don't overlook the impact of an incredible meal at your wedding. Whether it’s fine dining suspended over a river gorge or wood-fired pizzas under the countryside stars, exceptional food elevates the entire celebration, and leaves you with joyful, candid memories that look incredible on film.
